Oklahoma Christian University Campus Security and Fire Safety Report
The Oklahoma Christian University Campus Police Department has been designated as the department responsible for compiling and publishing the university’s Annual Security and Fire Safety Report. This document is intended to serve as the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, as required by the Higher Education Opportunity Act and the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. The purpose of the report is to provide information about security on campus, to include: campus community crime statistics, fire statistics and safety information, policy information, safety tips, resource phone numbers and a brief overview of the many services the university provides.
Information for this report is compiled by the Campus Police Department, from reports provided by campus security authorities including, but not limited to, Campus Police, the Dean of Student Life Office and the Office of Residence Life . Statistics are also compiled from Oklahoma City Police Department that relate to Oklahoma Christian University. Individuals who want to report crimes for inclusion in the Annual Security Report, or for the purpose of making timely warning reports, should report them to the Oklahoma Christian University Campus Police Department.
Oklahoma Christian is committed to providing the members of the campus community and visitors with the safest and most secure environment possible. However, even the most extensive initiatives cannot succeed without the awareness and cooperation of the community members who work, study, and live on campus.
Oklahoma Christian University Campus Police Department
The Oklahoma Christian University CAMPUS POLICE is the law enforcement division authorized by State Statute, Title 74, SS 306.11, in 1963 which gave the Board of Regents authority to appoint peace officers.
The CAMPUS POLICE provide the same services one would expect from any city, county or state law enforcement agency, and is responsible for enforcement of all state laws as well as rules and regulations of Oklahoma Christian University. CAMPUS POLICE have the legal authority to make arrests, issue traffic citations, conduct criminal investigations, serve warrants, and issue summons for parking violations.
The CAMPUS POLICE provide a sensitive, meaningful, measured approach to situations which require police assistance, while at the same time maintaining the autonomy of the University.
Overview of the Campus
The Oklahoma Christian University campus consists of more than 265 acres and 40 permanent buildings; all of which are protected by the CAMPUS POLICE. The department consists of commissioned police officers and an administrative assistant. The CAMPUS POLICE Department has the responsibility for the protection of persons and property of approximately 2,424 students, 391 faculty and staff members, and many visitors that frequent the campus each year.
Oklahoma Christian CAMPUS POLICE have complete police authority to apprehend and arrest anyone involved in illegal acts on-campus and areas immediately adjacent to the campus. If minor offenses involving University rules and regulations are committed by a University student, the campus police may also refer the individual to the Vice-President, Dean of Student Life.
Major offenses such as rape, murder, aggravated assault, robbery, and auto theft are reported to local police. The city police and OSBI are deployed to solve serious felony crimes. The prosecution of all criminal offenses, both felony and misdemeanor, are conducted at either Municipal, or Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office.
CAMPUS POLICE personnel work closely with local, county, state, and federal police agencies. The University Police Department is also a part of the Oklahoma County 911 Emergency System. Through coordination with local law enforcement agencies, any criminal activity engaged in by students at off-campus locations of student organizations, is monitored and recorded. This information is provided to the VP, Dean of Students Life for any action or follow-up that may be required.
